AccuQuilt's 2017 Quilt
Each year, AccuQuilt sponsors an online quilt block design contest for quiltmakers around the world. The winning quilt block design is displayed all year long on a 17-foot billboard outside of AccuQuilt headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska. This year's Quilt Block Unveiling Event, which took place Friday, September 29, was an absolute success and loads of fun for all involved.
Joined by over 200 guests, AccuQuilt honored this year's Grand Prize Winner Reed Johnson from Largo, Florida along with Runner-Up Terri Vanden Bosch from Doon, IA and Honorable Mention Winner Judy Best from London, ON.
Additional guests of honor included Cathy Raneri of Omaha's local 4-H club, Dr. Carolyn Ducy of the International Quilt Study Center and Museum, the editorial team from American Patchwork & Quilting, and Tamara Haynes and her father, Everett, from the American Quilter's Society.
The day began with an opportunity for guests to meet Marianne Fons of Fons & Porter and Ann Rehbein, Executive Director of the Quilts of Valor Foundation. Guests gathered for a tour of AccuQuilt's facilities and demonstrations on the pioneering products that AccuQuilt offers. Soon after, the group made its way outside for AccuQuilt's Quilt Block Unveiling Event and Recognition of Honorees. AccuQuilt's Chief Energizing Officer (CEO), Steve Nabity, and President, Greg Gaggini opened and led the event, while Marianne and Ann contributed a very special presentation for the Quilts of Valor Foundation.
The Quilts of Valor Foundation aims to provide all military service members and veterans who have been touched by war with a Quilt of Valor. Marianne and Ann presented a Quilt of Valor to Retired Air Force Master Sargent Philip Armstrong who served from 1950 to 1976 in the United States, Vietnam, and Korea.
