Sashiko Needle Sampler new from Colonial Needle Company

Pepper Cory presents the perfect needles for the classic Japanese needle art of sashiko in the Sashiko Needle Sampler from The Colonial Needle Company.

The Sashiko Needle Sampler contains 10 fine quality English needles in four different sizes, which can be used to stitch sashiko designs with a range of thread weights on a variety of fabric types. The longest needles in the package are 2”, ideal for stitching through several layers of fabric such as lightweight quilts. The back of the package card describes the basic sashiko stitch technique and includes Pepper’s suggestions for thread weights and stitch sizes.

Sashiko, literally “little stabs,” uses running stitches to produce distinctive decorative effects on embroidered and quilted garments and home decor. Traditional sashiko uses white cotton thread on indigo blue fabric, but is often seen as white stitches on other shades of blue and on red fabrics, as well as on stripes.

Pepper Cory is a quilt designer, teacher and author of several quilting books. She has also designed several stencils used for marking fabrics for sashiko and quilting stitches.
