Hobbs Tuscany Collection
Tuscany Wool Batting & Tuscany Silk Batting

The entire Tuscany Collection by Hobbs Bonded Fibers was created to enable quilt shops to order a line of the best quilt batting in every type of fiber. That includes polyester, cotton, wool and silk. They also endeavored to make every quilt shop able to order this line of battings so they have a one batt per type minimum with a very small $100 minimum from the assortment. The Batting Buds only tested two samples from the collection: Tuscany Wool Batting and Tuscany Silk Batting.

Tuscany Silk quilt batting is made from a very fine, pure imported silk. It is then carded and resin bonded to help retard bearding (fiber migration) and allowing the batting to be handled like a blanket. It can be quilted up to four inches apart and hand washed in tepid water and layed out to dry flat. It will likely shrink approximately five percent. Silk being a natural fiber breathes and quilts magnificently by machine or hand.

Tuscany Wool batting is made with the very best superwash wool which eliminates most or all of the shrinkage. It is then carded and resin bonded to help retard bearding. Tuscany wool batting proveded superb insulation and the fiber breathes allowing escess heat to disperse away from the body. It can be quilted up to four inches apart and is washable. Hobbs recommends washing in tepid water by hand and laying out flat to dry. It hand quilts like a dream and is wonderful for machine quilters as well.
