Baby Lock dealers offer feather boas for a cause

Baby Lock dealers have developed a style all their own. At various Baby Lock events around the country, attendees can be seen with purple feather boas draped across their shoulders, around their waists, and on their sewing machines. But these feather boas aren’t just a fashion statement; Baby Lock dealers are selling them to raise money for charity, and people are beginning to take notice.

In September in Chautauqua, Baby Lock dealer Judy Fenton sold the boas for $5 each at the Quilting Around Chautauqua Festival, an event she attends annually as a Baby Lock dealer. The funds she raised went directly to Susan G. Komen for the Cure affiliates in Buffalo, NY, and Pittsburg, PA. Fenton owns Millcreek Sewing & Fabric, a Baby Lock dealership in Erie, PA.

“Because I attend sewing and quilting events every year, I wanted to do something that would really make them special,” Fenton said. “Selling feather boas not only adds a little style and spice to the events, but the proceeds go to a very worthy cause -- one that impacts nearly everyone in attendance.”

Earlier this year, at the 2007 American Quilter Society’s Quilt Exposition & Contest in Nashville, another Baby Lock dealer, Sally Cheney, raised $1,200 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by selling the feather boas. Cheney, owner of AAA Sewing and Vacuum in Nashville, also sponsored Baby Lock’s Building Quilts for Love program, in which the public could come out to build quilts for Parents Reaching Out, a local charity.

“Baby Lock really empowers its dealers to contribute to their communities,” Cheney said. “Not only do they offer me the tools I need to build a successful business, but they help me give back to those around me as well.”

Baby Lock offers a full line of products that enhances the love of quilting, including technically advanced quilting and sewing machines, sergers, embroidery products and exclusive software. For more information about Baby Lock, visit www.babylock.com.
