Industry News Baby Lock awards winners of ASG Creativity Contest 2007 Five grand prize winners receive Baby Lock sergers or sewing machines Recently, five women received grand prize awards for their entries in the American Sewing Guild’s Creativity Contest 2007. The contest is an annual event that challenges participants to create garments using Simplicity sewing patterns in tandem with their own creativity. Each grand prize winner received a Baby Lock serger or sewing machine. The contest challenged participants to use one or more of nine specific Simplicity sewing patterns to create the garments they submitted to contest judges. The patterns might be used in any combination, but no other patterns could be used. Participants were encouraged to adjust, adapt or embellish their entries, using their creativity to enhance their designs. Grand prize winners were honored at the ASG Conference 2007 in Sacramento, CA, in July and will be featured in the fall issue of ASG Notions. Three runners up were recognized in each category as well. Participants could compete in one of five categories: Most Creative Use of Fabric and/or Trim, Most Interesting Wardrobe Concept, Gold Star Award for Sewing Excellence and Couture Details, Shining Star Award (for ASG members 18-30), and Rising Star Award (for ages under 18, sponsored by an ASG member). Grand prize winners include: Heidi Cooper, Vacaville, CA, (Most Creative Use of Fabric and/or Trim); Judy McAlvey, DeSoto, TX, (Most Interesting Wardrobe Concept); Mary Collen, Orting, WA, (Gold Star for Sewing Excellence and Couture Details); Genevieve Catalano, Dayton, OH, (Shining Star Award); and Meryle Idzerda, Rolling Medows, IL, (Rising Star Award).
