VCP International shares letter reflecting thoughts on VDTA Show

Dear Dealers:

VCP would like to thank those who were able to visit with us in Las Vegas at VDTA’s Annual Trade Show. We would also like to share with all of our friends a few reflective thoughts. If we hear “our economic condition” one more time we might all run outside and scream, kidding of course (sort of). It was very refreshing however to discover that independent businesses are alive and well and to speak with so many who are not only surviving, but thriving. What we did find were a few common threads between independent dealers. They were receptive to new ideas when looking for products that will help them diversify and grow their businesses.

As we all desire more foot traffic, we also think it most important to maximize the opportunity with our current customers by offering new, and in some cases, much different product offerings. As one couple described their business to us, they used the word, “Lifestyle.” That is what we are doing, isn’t it? When customers come into your store they are looking for a product for a particular purpose to complement their Lifestyle. Who said it just has to be with vacuums or sewing machines? It is time to think outside of the box. Green cleaning is becoming more and more important and is not just about the chemicals we use. We should look at some new opportunities that fit our type of customers.

For instance, compact fluorescent and LED light bulbs -- most people want to save energy, help the environment, and save money but with these new types of light bulbs, consumers are usually dissatisfied with their first purchase because they are not informed about the differences and just need to be educated about the best one for them.

Security systems is another great opportunity for you to not only use within your own store, but they also offer peace of mind to everyone, regardless if they own their own home or rent. This is a product that demos very well.

One of the hottest items in our booth again this year was the C2 personal TASER. Not only can you offer security for your customers at home and at work, but everywhere they go. What price can you put on peace of mind?

Most of our thoughts have been about diversifying, but let us not forget the excitement around many new product offerings, including the new Samsung line of canisters which is only sold through independent dealers and includes three compact and two full size units. The Thermax rental program was another big draw which offers the opportunity to expand your rental business with very little out-of-pocket expense and a great way to increase store traffic. Both Samsung and Thermax will bring additional profits, quality and complement your current product assortment.
