Latest vacuum motors offer features with the environment in mind

AMETEK Commercial Motors, an industry leader in high-performance motors for commercial vacuum and blower applications, has begun incorporating more environmentally friendly features into its vacuum motors and is marketing them with a new “Green Powered” logo, similar to the “Lamb Powered” logo used with its well-established Lamb Electric brand.

“The latest generations of our motors offer higher performance, greater efficiency, reduced noise, longer life and better indoor air quality than either our competition’s motors or earlier versions of our own,” noted Denise Schier, vice president and general manager of AMETEK Commercial Motors. “Recent innovations in fan design, materials and assembly have allowed us to improve the performance of our motors, while achieving lower noise and greater energy efficiency.”

Along with the existing commercial Lamb Electric 5.7-inch and 7.2-inch vacuum motor lines, AMETEK offers environmentally friendly versions of its new ADVANTEK II series universal thru-flow vacuum motors and GEN II INFIN-A-TEK® switched reluctance brushless vacuum motors.

The ADVANTEK II vacuum motor uses a new, patented thru-flow motor design developed to meet the demanding requirements of the commercial vacuum market. It combines an enhanced motor design with new air diffusion technology that improves overall operating efficiencies up to 20 percent. These improvements allow the ADVANTEK II to operate at lower speeds, dramatically reducing noise in both dB’s and sones, while achieving equivalent performance and offering increased durability and reliability.

The ADVANTEK II platform serves as a new line of motor products that span the needs of commercial and central vacuum markets and is available with fan diameters ranging from 4.0” to 5.7” and multiple lamination platforms.

The GEN II INFIN-A-TEK brushless vacuum motors incorporate the latest advancements in digital control technology and electric circuitry design utilizing the brushless switched reluctance (SR) technology. With its microprocessor-based controller, the GEN II INFIN-A-TEK vacuum motor requires neither carbon brushes nor additional power sources for the control board.

The brushless technology eliminates carbon dust for improved air quality and the need for periodic brush change-out maintenance for improved run time and reduced life cycle cost. The integrated power source for the controller eliminates the additional cost for a powered controller as well as reducing the complexity of installation. The overall GEN II design improves motor life by upwards of 10x that of existing brushed designs.

The GEN II INFIN-A-TEK is available in 5.7”- and 7.2”- diameter tangential bypass and 5.7”- diameter Acustek® low-noise peripheral bypass discharge models. There are also 9.0”-diameter hi-flow and hi-sealed suction FLO-TEK™ tangential bypass models available. The GEN II INFIN-A-TEK models are available in 120, 240 Volt as well as 24, 36 and 48 low voltage versions.
