2006 Breckling Press title NANCY CROW wins coveted Award of Excellence
NANCY CROW, art monograph by quilt artist Nancy Crow, was voted the winner of the 55th Chicago Book Clinic Awards for Special Trade-Pictorial books. The winners were announced at the book and media Show, Chicago City Centre Hotel, Chicago in November. Awarded by the Chicago Book Clinic, the prize honors excellence in planning, supervision, and execution of book design and production.
NANCY CROW is a masterful art book. Crow is credited by The Smithsonian as one of the premier colorists in contemporary American art. Her quilts are recognized for their deep saturated colors, their bold graphic patterns, and their powerful rhythms. In NANCY CROW, Crow showcases six major series of her work. Hundreds of photographs of full quilts and quilt details that display the complexity of her world view and the excellence of her workmanship are complimented by art-historian Jean Robertson’s grounding forward and Crow’s own formative sketch books and private journals. Crow thoughtfully explains her artistic motivations and intentions, including often shocking experiences or life events that triggered particular works.
