The newest generation of purification: Space Age Non-Ozone Air Purifiers

by Alexandria Barnett, environmentalist

Air purification is a market that has evolved from a thunderstorm in box over 20 years ago to revolutionary technologies which utilize light rays and rare metals to purify air indoors the same way nature purifies air outdoors using the power of sunshine without ozone.

Revolutionary RCI Technology
The technology incorporated in our newest purification systems was originally developed by NASA to scrup the air in spacecraft of toxic pollutants and is revolutionary compared to the competition. This newest technology called RCI (Radiant Catalytic Ionization) is the next generation of PCO or photo chemical oxidation. Photo oxidation works by causing a catalytic reaction between a high intensity 25,000 hour germicidal UVX lamps (like sunshine) with a honeycomb matrix coated with rare metals. The precise light we use, namely 254 nanometers falls between the UV light and invisible UV light.
This light reacts with a multi-surface matrix which surrounds the bulb. The matrix surfaces which have been coated with four rare metals react with the UVX light to produce a purifying plasma of safe oxides and hydroxyls. These oxides flow into the airstream to destroy mold, mildew, bacteria, and viruses and remove VOCs and odors, both in the air and on surfaces. A warning here, other air cleaners which toss in a UV bulb are not the same! UV alone is very ineffective in killing anything and even in the best case scenario is limited by the one-inch rule. That means a pollutant must come within one inch of the UV bulb in preferable still air to cause a miniscule amount of purification.

Only purifier with University research
Air cleaner Web sites and new entries in the marketplace make claims they are using revolutionary technologies evolving from purported government grants to solve the Anthrax scare after Sept. 11 to independent tests performed by laboratories for hire. Only we have been named to the Space Foundation for our application to space age technologies to air purification.
We live in a very litigious world today and claims, while perhaps convincing on the first read, are nothing more than good ad copy! Today’s sophisticated customer will buy what you “sell and stock” to a degree but many are looking for a higher level of proof of the effectiveness of their air purifier purchases. Nebulous awards or approvals carry little or no weight for these customers. You really need to have validated research support of your claims and keep copies in your store. In contrast we are the only air purification company that has had on-going research at the likes of the premier mechanical engineering school in the nation, Kansas State University, for over three years. These studies have been overseen by a professor Dr. James Marsden who has presented papers to many U.S. governmental bodies. DVDs of his presentations are available for your use in your store. This research has been peer reviewed, the gold standard in academic circles, to substantiate all the claims we make on the kill rates of pollutants.
We have augmented that research with ongoing studies on particle removal at University of Cincinnati and most recently Syracuse University. No one else has this kind of verification, making us the only air purification company that has scientific substantiation that we have kill rates of over 99.9 percent on microbes. The results of this extensive research are no less than phenomenal. We can make claims of kill rates of over 99.99 percent of the likes of bacteria viruses, mold mildew and even Avian Flu. VOCs, odors and smoke are also eliminated. In addition research has verified that RCI is more effective than the obsolete technology of ozone air purification. (See chart).

Active versus Passive
The technologies we have used over the years always focused on sending the solution to reach the pollutant rather than drawing the air through complex and expensive filtration over and over again common in nearly every other air cleaner on the market. Ours is an active technology rather than passive (filtration, UV bulbs etc.) The limitations of passive are well established from their high maintenance and operating costs, limited effect of the real culprits in air purifications such as bacteria, viruses, and VOCs. Copycats now installing just a UV bulb have very limited germicidal effect and do nothing to VOCs.

New Products
New environmental products using this same technology range from a device for laundry to in-duct air purifiers. These ActivePure 2000 in-duct purifiers can either be used independently or in conjunction with the freestanding purifier to guarantee an even distribution of pure air in residential and light commercial environments. They can be installed by nearly anyone but are particularly applicable to central vacuum installers.
Fresh Air Everest has every bell and whistle from fine finished cabinetry, to a remote control and LCD display which uses IntelliAir maintenance reminders. The cord is a regular computer cord, the RCI cell is replaceable and the purifier uses standard household current. The Fresh Air Everest is a premium freestanding, non-ozone purifier without the expense of replacement filters, and carries a three-year warranty.
We are a premium environmental company with sales aids from DVDs to PowerPoint’s, validated research, eight-page, four-color brochures and editorial validation in magazines such as Healthy Living, medical books as well as endorsements from the likes of Dr. Laura. Come to our seminars at the VDTA Convention in February and receive all the sales aids. In the past three years this manufacturer has formed a totally commercial division with no MLM.
