Singer & Handbag Designer 101 recognize top designers at 2009 Independent Handbag Designer Awards

Handbag Designer 101, the world's handbag designer resource, and Singer Sewing Company, leading sellers of consumer and artisan sewing machines, recognized the top handmade handbag designers at the third annual Independent Handbag Designer Awards in June 2009 in New York City.

"The 'Best Handmade Handbag Category' has been one of the most popular and influential aspects in our prestigious competition that spans the globe," said Emily Blumenthal, Founder of Handbag Designer 101 and IHDA. "We were extremely excited to again partner with the Singer Sewing Company whose name has been synonymous with sewing, reliability and innovation for the past 158 years."

As the winner of the 'Best Handmade Handbag Category', Alexis Campagna of Antibellum received a HD-100 Heavy Duty SINGER® sewing machine. Using both machine and hand sewing to create her winning design, she believes that "a handbag should have longevity, and it should be as relevant and eye-catching 10 years from now as it is today." Further she states that her philosophy "is that quality should come first, even if a process takes longer, is more labor-intensive, or costs more."

To encourage consumers to create their own personalized handbags, Campagna has developed a sewing pattern for download exclusively on www.singerco.com.

"Downloadable patterns for totes and handbags are one of the most visited categories at www.singerco.com," said Gary Jones, president, Singer Sewing Company. "We are pleased to build upon our successful history with IHDA and share our rich tradition of making sewing simple and easy."

Last year, Singer Sewing Company began to share a "Sewing Tip of the Month" on HandbagDesigner101.com. The tips for both beginner and advanced handbag designers have all been created by SINGER® sewing experts.
