Miele’s S7 upright vacuum wins prestigious red dot award for design excellence

Miele’s innovative new S7 upright vacuum cleaner is the recipient of a coveted red dot award from the Design Zentrum Nordin in Germany, which is one of Europe’s oldest and highly reputed design centers. Nine other Miele products also receive honors including a best of best award for Miele’s ventilation hoods. The largest and most renowned design competition in the world, the red dot design award contest is aimed at honoring outstanding quality and trendsetters.

“To be recognized among our esteemed colleagues with a red dot award is truly a great honor,” said Paul McCormack, marketing manager of Miele. “The red dot design award is a distinction bestowed on excellence. It is a testament of the dedication the Miele engineers have to forever improve upon our high caliber appliances.”

Each year an international jury reviews and evaluates the submitted products according to criteria such as degree of innovation, functionality and the formal quality. This year, Miele is recognized from among 3,200 entries in the product design category.

The S7 vacuum was selected a winner because it breaks the boundaries between upright and canister -- combining the very best of both worlds into one ultra-maneuverable design. Its patented new SwivelNeck™ technology, with power-steering capability, allows the user to effortlessly move the vacuum in any direction -- even laying flat to the floor -- with an extremely low profile that glides under beds, tables and more. An integrated telescopic wand and specialized cleaning tools -- such as one would find on a Miele canister vacuum -- allow the user to easily shift from floors to crevices, stairs, furnishings and drapes. An energy-saving Automatic Setting, on select models, intelligently selects the correct suction level for optimal cleaning results and power usage.

The red dot award is one of the most significant marks of approval for successful design and has been presented every year since 1955. With around 11,000 entries from over 60 nations, the award breaks down into the three different disciplines “red dot award: product design”, “red dot award: communication design” and “red dot award: design concept.”
