The central vacuum factory in Amal, Sweden has been selling central vacuums since 1988 and has been manufacturing central units since 1993.

Nilfisk developed a new quiet ABS line of machines in 1998 to replace the existing three-hole bucket styrene line. These have sold well in Europe but have never been introduced into North America.

Nilfisk launched a new compact quiet line of central vacuums in late 2004 in Norway and Sweden. These are now being introduced to North America.
