Milliken Chemical

Milliken’s roots date back to 1865 when Seth Milliken and William Deering founded Deering Milliken Company, a small woolen fabrics company in Portland, ME. Deering soon left to start his own company. In 1868, Seth Milliken moved the company headquarters to New York City, at that time the heart of the American Textile Industry. In 1884, the company invested in a new facility in Pacolet, SC, and from that basic beginning the manufacturing operations grew.

Roger Milliken still runs one of the world’s largest textile companies. Milliken has spent almost 60 years at the helm of Milliken & Co., a huge family-owned business that employs 11,000. When Roger Milliken was born, Milliken & Co. was being run by his grandfather, Seth Milliken, who founded the company in 1865.

Milliken’s dedication to quality has garnered many prestigious awards worldwide. They are the only textile company in Europe that has been admitted to the British Standards Institute for Excellence in Quality. They are also one of the only companies in the United States to achieve both the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance TPM Excellence Award.

Milliken Chemical, a division of Milliken & Company, makes hundreds of products and colorants for paint, petroleum, plastics, textiles, fibers, and other manufacturing processes.

Milliken’s rich history of technological innovation has resulted in more than 1,900 patents and the development of the largest textile research center in the world. They have over 12,000 associates located at more than 60 facilities worldwide working with more than 38,000 different products.

Milliken makes a variety of fabric, yarn and chemical products that keep astronauts safe, make major league baseball players comfortable and adorn homes and businesses around the globe. Their products also give tennis balls their soft texture and Jell-O pudding its creamy smoothness.

Milliken Chemical’s products play a critical role in many industrial and consumer applications. For example, some of the Milliken Chemical products found in most homes are the non-staining colorants used in children’s washable markers, the color in liquid laundry detergents, and the key ingredient that allows plastic food containers to be clear.

Milliken Chemical is the proud manufacturer of Capture, the industry’s premier family of carpet cleaning products for consumers. Their patented dry cleaning technology is at the core of the Capture product line and is designed to help keep carpets and rugs looking their best!

The Capture dry cleaning system makes it quick, safe and easy to get professional quality carpet cleaning.
