M.D. Manufacturing, Inc.

From its humble beginnings in a garage in 1961, M.D. Manufacturing has always been driven to produce the finest central vacuum on the market. Charles Emdy (yes, that’s where the “M.D.” came from) innovated many great features into his first system and his son Wayne further enhanced the products when he took over the company in 1971. With two motors, dual intakes, four-stage filtration and 18-gauge construction, MD set the pace with unique features.

In 1987 Wayne Emdy patented the first quiet central vacuum, Silent Master, and M.D. continued it’s quality quest, introducing the computer-assisted Stealth Powerbrush in 1993. In 2003, M.D. introduced all new quieting AirForce patents coupled with their UPB technology that eliminates the need for low voltage wires. Now they offer home automation tie-ins including shut-offs when the phone, doorbell, or other device is activated. Early next year they will be introducing e-mail bag-full notification and many other technology break-throughs.

M.D. is soon to break ground on a new facility in Bakersfield, CA, that will be twice the size. This will allow far created capacity plus a larger research and development department. M.D. has also led the Internet with its industry acclaimed portal; www.centralvacuum.com ” Web site that contains over 5,000 pages of information on central vacuums.

What makes M.D. unique is their ability to provide personal service. Integrity and character is what pulled them through major disasters such as a fire that leveled them in 1983 and the sudden death of their owner in 1992. Ask any M.D. dealer if they appreciate their relationship with M.D., and you’ll be convinced that their word is as good as gold.

Both Charlie and Wayne Emdy were inducted into the VDTA Hall of Fame and M.D. continues their great spirit of innovation.
